Skype Tips & Advice

  • The popular Skype for Business app has been replaced by Microsoft Teams. Skype for Business Mac has also been replaced by Microsoft Teams for Mac. If you want to know more about this new app, check out our Microsoft Teams app review.

  • If you need to make an international call, then use Skype credit instead of wracking up a huge phone bill on your mobile or landline. For example, an international call to India costs only 1.5 cents/minute using Skype credit. Conversely, AT&T’s pay-per-use rate to India is $4/minute. If you frequently make calls to India (or any other country), you can instead choose one of Skype’s monthly subscriptions which begins with a free one-month trial.

  • Are you a small business or freelancer in need of a business phone number? Instead of paying for a new line or device, simply set up a phone number using Skype that can be accessed via desktop or mobile! Three paying options are available: $6.50/month, $18.53/3 mos., and $52.26/year.

  • Need to know how to take a screenshot on a PC or Mac during video calls? Skype’s interface remains the same for both PC and Mac, so you can follow the same instructions for either. While in call, simply click the snapshot button in the lower left of the call screen. After taking the picture, Skype will save it to your local desktop. However, this feature is not available in Skype for Web.

  • You can bookmark important messages on Skype for future reference. On any chat, click on the three vertical dots on the right side of your screen to open more options, then click “add bookmark.” To view your bookmarks, click on your profile picture, then on “bookmarks.”
